I wasn’t fully American until I left America. Until then, my “Americanness” never really occurred to me. If I had any geographical identity, it was always smaller scale, more specific. I was working-class Midwestern. I was from the poorer neighbourhood of apartments in our high school district. I was a Chicagoan.

The American Election – What Does It Mean?

For women, that is. Well, in the grand scheme of things, not an awful lot. Sharia law will still see some young women stoned to death for adultery in those countries. Some countries still refuse to educate women. Unequal pay still proliferates, and violence against women is still commonplace.
